GM Appeals Court Battle with Paralyzed Driver to US Supreme Court

In 2012, Missouri resident Michael Bavlsik was returning from home to St. Louis following a trip to Minnesota, his GMC Savana filled with eight other passengers, including two of his sons. After his passenger van struck a boat being towed by another vehicle, the GMC Savana flipped, and, although he was wearing his seatbelt at the time, Bavlsik struck his head against the collapsed ceiling, suffering a cervical-spinal cord injury that left the father of eight quadriplegic.

On July 7, 2014, brothers Matthew and Michael Lennig were cruising in their pickup truck along California’s Route 14 heading for outdoor fun in Mammoth, ATVs in tow. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a CRST Inc. commercial truck traveling in the opposite direction veered across the center dividing line and into their lane. Boxed in by a construction wall running along the right side of the highway, the brothers were unable to swerve to avoid the oncoming big rig, and the commercial truck struck them on the driver’s side.

PG&E Warns Fires Might Cost Millions

In a mandatory financial disclosure to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Pacific Gas & Electric Corp. (PG&E) warned that restoration and repair costs resulting from the Northern California wildfires of October 2017 could total in the hundreds of millions of dollars. This estimate does not include potential court-imposed damages should PG&E be found liable for causing one or more of the fires.

Governor's Office To Condemn Wildfire Response

Representatives from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) met with Sonoma County officials in a closed-door meeting February 20, briefing the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors and others in advance of the release of an independent report that is expected to broadly condemn the county’s preparedness for the October 2017 Northern California fires.
